The promise of 1.5℃: Utilizing geothermal energy from groundwater to curb temperature rise.
The realization of 'ZEB' in snowy regions through a high-efficiency aquifer thermal energy storage heating and cooling system, and the elimination of winter barriers through non-water snow melting. The potential of thermal energy from groundwater.
At the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP27) held in November 2022, countries around the world reaffirmed their commitment to "limit the increase in the global average temperature to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels." We must achieve net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050. Japan Groundwater Development (JGD) has successfully implemented a groundwater heat energy utilization system that uses the 15°C thermal energy of groundwater for a non-water-spraying snow melting system, contributing to the realization of carbon neutrality by 2050. In 2021, through the development of high-efficiency groundwater thermal storage, we completed a 100% net-zero energy building (ZEB), which was previously considered difficult to achieve in snowy cold regions. Achieving the "1.5°C promise" is not easy, but there is no doubt that the 15°C thermal energy available to us is one of the key elements in fulfilling this promise. JGD will continue to pursue the potential of groundwater. *We plan to exhibit at the NEW Environmental Exhibition to be held at Tokyo Big Sight from May 24 to May 26.
